Westbound I-696 Closed In Oakland County Again This Weekend

June 08, 2018 - 10:40 am

SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) - If you were planning to use I-696 this weekend, you may need a detour.

For the second straight weekend, the closure of westbound I-696 will be extended in Oakland County.

The Michigan Department of Transportation will close westbound 696 from Dequindre to Telegraph starting at 9 p.m. Friday. The closure, which includes all entrance ramps, will run until early Monday morning.

The official detour will be westbound M-102 (8 Mile Road) to M-10 to US-24 (Telegraph Road) or westbound I-696, with access from I-94 in Macomb County and I-75 in Oakland County.

This weekend work is part of the larger "Restore the Reuther" project that launched at the end of April, with the complete closure of westbound I-696 in Macomb County from I-94 to Dequindre Road through November.

Drivers should keep in mind that eastbound I-696 remains open in both Oakland and Macomb counties.
