(WWJ) Heads up, drivers: Another big freeway closure is expected to cause traffic delays this weekend in Detroit.

Westbound I-94 will be completely shut down  from I-96 to US-12 (Michigan Ave.) for roadwork beginning at 9 p.m. Friday, August 16.

All lanes are expected to reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, August 19.

According to the Michigan Department of Transportation, this closure is necessary as crews work in pavement repair.

During the closure, westbound traffic will be detoured via eastbound I-96 to the Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd./Michigan Ave. exit, then westbound on Michigan Ave. back to westbound I-94. Drivers can also use westbound I-96 to southbound M-39 (the Southfield Freeway) back to westbound I-94. The closure is needed to safely allow crews to resurface westbound I-94 from I-96 to Wyoming Ave.

Drivers should note that the southbound I-75 ramp to westbound I-94 is currently closed for the ongoing Brush Street overpass replacement. The weekend detour for the ramp closure will be southbound I-75 to Rosa Parks Blvd., then southbound 14th Street to westbound US-12 and back to westbound I-94.

Also mucking up the works this weekend: MDOT is closing southbound M-10, the Lodge Freeway at Wyoming Ave., south of McNichols Rd., so crews can repair a bridge that was damaged when it was hit by a high-load vehicle. This closure begins a bit earlier, Friday morning.
