DETROIT (WWJ) -- A man has been charged in connection with a fatal car crash that killed his passenger late last year.

Prosectuors say police were dispatched to the scene of a single-vehicle crash around 3 p.m. on Dec. 6 in the area of Puritan Avenue and Wisconsin Street on Detroit's northwest side.

Upon arrival, officers found a vehicle crashed into a building in the 8600 block of Puritan with a man, identified as 24-year-old Donald Dwayne Adams, in the vehicle's front passenger seat and no driver in site.

Prosecutors allege that 25-year-old John Henry Johnson, III, of Westland, was driving the vehicle eastbound on Puritan and drove off the road and into the building. It is alleged that Johnson then fled the scene on foot and left Adams behind, still in the front passenger seat.

Medics took Adams to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Johnson has been charged with Reckless Driving Causing Death and Failure to Stop at the Scene of an Accident When at Fault, Resulting in Death.

Johnson was arraigned Tuesday before 36th District Court Magistrate Dawn M. White.  His next scheduled court date is March 7.
