Windsor Police: Man Found Dead In River May Have Ties To Detroit Area

July 31, 2019 - 6:00 pm

(WWJ) Windsor police say a man found dead in the Detroit River over a week ago may have ties to the Detroit area.

Police added that bit of information Wednesday, as they renewed their call for tips to identify the man.

Police got a call at around 6 p.m. on Friday, July 19 about a man spotted swimming in the Peche Island Channel, east of Belle Isle, and who appeared to need help. Officers searched the area for the swimmer but couldn't find him, and the search was called off late Friday due to the severe weather.

At around 11:45 a.m. the following Monday, a man's body was discovered floating in the water near the 9200 block of Riverside Drive East, not far from where the man had been seen swimming.

While the death is not believed to be suspicious, the swimmer wasn't carrying any identification and investigators are now seeking any information that may help them to ID him.
The man is described as around 35 to 50 years old, 5'8" to 5'10" tall and 170 lbs., with olive/brown skin tone, a medium build, dark shoulder length hair and full dark beard.

He was wearing a "Denim And Flower" brand short-sleeve button-down shirt in a size large (see the pattern in the photo above), dark colored jeans, size 10 black and brown Nike high-top shoes and a necklace with a "Buddha" pendant (pictured above).
Anyone with information is asked to contact Windsor Police at 519-255-6700 ext. 4830 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 519-258-8477 (TIPS).
