Woman Arrested In Hit-And-Run Crash That Shut Down I-94; Man Hospitalized

February 01, 2019 - 12:44 pm

TAYLOR (WWJ) - A Good Samaritan is being credited with helping police catch a woman allegedly involved in a hit-and-run crash on I-94 in Taylor.

According to Michigan State Police, a witness was able to take a picture of the suspect's license plate after investigators say she caused a crash that sent another vehicle into the guardrail on westbound I-94 near Telegraph Road, Friday morning.

Police said an emergency crew had to use Jaws of Life to rescue the driver of the SUV she'd hit after the crash trapped him in his vehicle. The injured man was airlifted from the freeway to University of Michigan Medical Center and where he was listed in critical condition.

State police said they used the information from the witness to track down and arrest the suspect who'd fled the scene.

"This is another great example of the community and law enforcement working together to catch someone that has committed a crime. Great job by witnesses, troopers, Taylor FD and Survival Flight," State Police wrote in a tweet.

The suspect remains in custody at the MSP post in Taylor, awaiting expected charges. An investigation is ongoing.

No names have been released.

The freeway was closed for a time following the crash but has since reopened.
