BLOOMFIELD TWP. (WWJ) - A 29-year-old woman is behind bars, accused of harassing and threatening employees at a loan office in Oakland County.

The investigation began back on January 3 of this year, when Bloomfield Township Police responded to a call about disturbing and threatening phone calls received at Hebrew Free Loan on Telegraph Rd. near W. Maple Rd.

Officers spoke with the manager who reported she received a call from a man inquiring about a loan. When she told him he didn't qualify, the man said it “wasn’t fair” and hung up.

Shortly after the call, several employees of HFL started to receive disturbing and threatening phone calls from a woman -- later identified as April Marie Bennett -- whom they said used derogatory language to describe their race and ethnicity.

During one of the calls, Bennett allegedly told a manager that she was going to come the HFL and kill her. That's when the manager called police.

For each call received by HFL, police said the caller identification showed the name April Bennett.

Following a lengthy investigation, police on June 19 obtained a warrant from the from the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office, and Bennett was arrested in Hastings, Michigan, north of Battle Creek.

On June 20, Bennett was arraigned in the 48th District Court on two felony counts of Ethnic Intimidation and four misdemeanor counts of Malicious Use of a Telecommunication Service.

Bond was set at $50,000 and Bennett's next court hearing was scheduled for July 2.
