October 16, 2018 - 8:17 pm

CLINTON TWP. (WWJ) - A woman has been arrested following a police chase and crash along Metro Parkway in Clinton Township.

According to Clinton Township police, a business owner called late Tuesday afternoon to report a suspicious vehicle in the area of 15 Mile Rd. and Harper.

When officers arrived to investigate, the female driver allegedly fled through side streets with police in pursuit, eventually crossing the median along Metro Parkway (16 Mile Rd.) near Harper, and crashing into a light pole.

A witness posted footage of the chase and crash on Facebook. **NOTE: Video contains strong language/profanity. See it here

Officers found a 5-year-old child in the car after the wreck, police said. The child, who was not injured, was turned over to relatives.

Charges are pending against the woman. Her name was not immediately released.

Further details, including what was initially suspicious or why the driver fled, are not known at this time as an investigation continues.

Police said westbound Metro Parkway would be closed for several hours into the night so the pole and lights could be replaced.
