May 20, 2019 - 2:19 pm

CLINTON TWP. (WWJ) - A crash along I-94 in Macomb County has left a young woman fighting for her life.

Clinton Township police said the 21-year-old lost control of her 2006 Kia Sorento on the eastbound side of the freeway, and hit the median wall a little before 12:30 a.m. Monday, just past 14 Mile Road in Clinton Township.

Police said the vehicle then rolled over before coming to a stop several hundred feet down the freeway.

The driver, identified as a 21-year-old Livonia woman, was unconscious but breathing at the scene. She was taken by EMS to McLaren Macomb hospital where she was listed in critical condition. Her name was not immediately released.

No additional injuries were reported.

As for what may have led to the crash, police said witnesses told them that the Kia passed them a high rate of speed before it lost control on the wet pavement and struck the wall.

As the investigation continues, police said it's not known if alcohol or drugs may have been a factor.

Police are asking anyone who witnesses to the crash, or who may have any information pertinent to the investigation to call to Captain Wade at 586-493-7931.
