Woman Dies After Touching Downed Power Line Behind Caution Tape

May 08, 2018 - 6:14 am

DETROIT (WWJ) - Authorities say a woman was killed when she apparently came in contact with a downed live wire on Detroit's east side .

DTE Energy crews found the woman's body Monday afternoon in an alley along East State Fair, just east of I-75, when they arrived at the scene to make repairs to the wire, which was damaged last week by high winds.

Utility officials say the woman had been in contact with the live wire in an area that was blocked by yellow caution tape.

While the investigation continues, DTE officials say its a sad reminder of the importance to stay clear of any downed wire and assume that it is always live.

The victim's name was not released.
