A second vehicle fled the scene

DETROIT (WWJ) - A woman was rushed to the hospital Tuesday morning following a hit-and-run crash along the southbound Lodge Service Drive in Detroit.

Speaking to WWJ's Vickie Thomas at the scene, police said a female driver was pulled by first responders from her vehicle, which flipped onto its roof after it was struck, south of 7 Mile Road.

She was taken away by EMS and her condition is unknown at this time.

Police said another vehicle involved in the crash did not stop at the scene, and they are investigating this as a hit-and-run. However, there is no description available at this time of the wanted driver or the suspect vehicle.

Among those gathered to see what was going on was lifelong Detroiter Geraldine Jackson, who lives in the neighborhood.

"Obviously somebody was speeding at a high rate of speed on the Service Drive," she told Thomas. "The car is literally turned over, and I hope that no one has been seriously injured or killed, but the frequency of this is nothing new to this community."

"It's very frequent, all over the city of Detroit," Jackson added. "People are speeding, people are inconsiderate of each other and get angry very quickly....We need to slow down, we need to be more patient, and we need to be more courteous to people."

The name and age of the woman injured were not released.

Anyone who witnessed this crash or who has any information about the other driver involved is asked to call Detroit police at 313-267-4600.
