Woman Killed In Suspected Drunk Driving Crash On I-96

DETROIT (WWJ) - Police say alcohol may have been a factor in a deadly crash that had I-96 shut down for hours early Saturday morning.

The single-vehicle crash happened around 3:30 a.m. on westbound I-96 near Livernois Avenue on Detroit's west side.

Michigan State Police say a 26-year-old woman lost control of her vehicle, causing it to roll over. She was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle, according to police.

The woman was taken to a local hospital where she died from her injuries.

Police say alcohol appears to be a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.

Westbound I-96 was closed at Livernois for more than four hours while police were investigating, but has since reopened to traffic.
