BATTLE CREEK (WWJ/AP) - A 33-year-old woman who authorities say was involved in a child pornography ring has entered a plea in a sexual assault case involving an infant girl.

Talia Furman of Springfield, Michigan, on Tuesday pleaded no contest to a charge of first-degree criminal sexual conduct. She faces a minimum of 25 years to life in prison when sentenced April 29, The Battle Creek Enquirer reported.

In exchange for her plea, which came the same day trial was set to start, 10 other charges were dropped, including child abuse and possession of child pornography. A no contest plea isn't an admission of guilt, but is treated as such for sentencing.

Furman and her boyfriend, 32-year-old Matthew Toole of Battle Creek, were arrested last year and accused of assaulting a 3-month-old girl and a 3-year-old boy. Toole pleaded no contest to two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct and faces 50 years to life in prison when sentenced on March 11.

Toole and Furman are also among four charged with conspiring to kidnap and kill a child in Branch County -- a plot that was never carried out.

Investigators say the group was planning to kidnap a young child from a public place, subdue the child and then torture and sexually assault the child until their death. Then, according to police, they would dispose of the body.

Police were investigating the child pornography ring when they uncovered conversations about plans to commit the kidnapping. Trial in that case was set to start this month but has reportedly been delayed until at least May.
