Russ McNamara

7 p.m.-midnight

WWJ Newsradio 950's Russ McNamara anchors your evening news on metro Detroit's only all-news radio station. All the top stories and weather and traffic on the 8s.

Like many at WWJ, I took a non-traditional route to get here. Growing up in the small UP town of Newberry, I was always a news junkie and am forever fascinated with weather. So, of course, I spent most of my professional career in sports broadcasting. The love of broadcasting – and especially radio – took me to Central Michigan University where I graduated in 2002. From there I worked in sports talk radio as a producer, reporter and update anchor for 10 years. After spending a glorious five months unemployed, I started here at WWJ in 2012 as a part-time sports anchor. I quickly became addicted to the fast-paced action of a newsroom and quickly made the transition to hard news. After a short tenure as a reporter/editor, I currently anchor evenings from 7 to midnight. While I miss the UP, I certainly have enjoyed my 10+ years here in Detroit. Currently, I live in Ferndale with my very understanding wife Sara, and my incredibly hyper dog Finnegan. When I’m not working, I enjoy photography, cooking and running. I love hearing from listeners!
